The New You
December 31st, 2024
At the close of the year we’re here to be your personal hair style Magic-8 ball for the upcoming quarter-century mark. Retrospectives are fine for some, but we feel like they’re so yesterday. We’ve seen what’s on the hair horizon, and to be honest, we’re psyched. We’re seeing a resurgence of some of our favorite looks from the past three decades, and we are so ready for a revamp. In the coming months we’ll be kissing those sleek styles goodbye and welcoming texture again, in a variety of ways that are catnip to any hairstylist. We’ll have the excitement of bold chops, it-girl allure, and some of our long-time favorites from the 90’s and early aughts.

Perhaps the biggest leap for those who like to play it safe in the hair arena, we have the French Girl Bob. In length, it’s shorter than we’ve seen in the past few decades, and a big jump from the middle ground of the lob that we saw in the 2010’s. From the neatly coiffed curled under version to the gamine slightly feathered one, it’s the style that will highlight those cheekbones you’ve been coveting, but without the buccal fat removal surgery. It’s giving Audrey Hepburn, and we are loving it.

One of our favorite throwbacks that pairs perfectly with the blazers we’re still seeing on every runway is the It-Girl Blowout a la Cindy Crawford. The volume was adopted effortlessly by everyone from Career Women to Gym Bunnies to Carpool Runners, and we are reveling in the nostalgia it brings back. The look’s versatility is a major draw, as it transitions so well from a casual setting to a party vibe. We’re especially excited to see it with shoulder pads again!

For a style that probably speaks to growing up at the turn of the century, we’re bringing it back to Long Layers. Think Jennifer Aniston’s entire hair history. For those of us who need a low maintenance option and aren’t ready for a major chop just yet, these face-framing layers are a fabulous choice. You can get some texture and a touch of volume without stopping at your stylist for a blow-out, and in the Teddy Bear Brown that is the color of the season you’ll look current with very little effort (don’t forget to maintain those roots though!)

Last on our list, and probably not the most attainable for everyone due to the length, we have Fairy Waves. Loose, romantic curls like this are best suited to a generous length. Whimsical and understated, they look effortlessly relaxed and pair well with both a maxi dress and an adorable skirt suit for an unexpected match. We love to add in some of the Tiny Braids we’re seeing come in this season for extra fun and dimension. A favorite look for an afternoon wedding or any girls’ evening out, this look is soft and alluring and we’re loving the fairytale vibes.
Before you go for any big hair changes, we cannot recommend enough that you look around for pictures of your ideal cut, color, and style. The best stylist is one that is on the same page as you, so make sure to have your pictures with you at your next cut. You deserve to start off this next year looking and feeling like your best self, so if you’re feeling ready, get scrolling and then get yourself to your stylist! Happy 2025 ya’ll!
